Facial Contouring, Lymphatic Drainage & Lomilomi Massage… Meet Jessica!

Jessica Blumberg L.M.T.

We are super excited to introduce Jessica to our team. She has been practicing massage therapy since 1996. Her career began after graduating from Pacific Beach School of Healing Arts in San Diego. Her travels took her to New York City where she was trained in Shiatsu, Lymphatic Drainage and advanced Swedish techniques. She was awarded an associates from the Swedish Institute in 2004. Career highlights have ranged from working at Colombia Presbyterian Hospital as a massage therapist where she helped the most in need to working at 5 star spas such as the Four Seasons and Silk Day Spa in Manhattan.

As with all our therapists at Massage Extraordinaire she specializes in Sports Massage and Deep Tissue techniques, but in addition brings some new therapies such as Lomilomi Massage, Lymphatic Drainage Massage and she is certified as a Facial Contouring Massage Therapist.

Lomilomi is a Hawaiian massage technique that is considered one of the oldest and most powerful forms of healing with a rich history in the Hawaiian culture. The word used traditionally means to knead, rub or soothe. Practitioners primarily use forearms, but will also use palms, fingers, knuckles, elbows, even knees and feet if needed. It is known as a healing and restorative massage. The massage is given in fluid and rhythmic motion. Aloha!

Lymphatic Drainage Massage encourages the natural drainage of the lymph, which carries waste products away from the tissues and back toward the heart. The lymph system depends on intrinsic contractions of the smooth muscle cells in the walls of lymph vessels to propel lymph through the vessels to the lymph nodes and on to the lymph ducts, which ultimately return lymph to the cardiovascular system. Manual lymph drainage uses a very specific amount of pressure and rhythmic circular movements to stimulate lymph flow.  Manual lymph drainage was pioneered in the 1930’s when Danish doctors, Emil and Estrid Vodder, noticed patients with chronic colds had swollen lymph nodes. They began to study the lymph system and developed a light rhythmic hand movement to promote lymph movement.
Facial Contouring Massage is amazing! This massage technique literally lifts and awakens your skin. The right movements will boost circulation and drain lymph glands which will de-bloat your face giving contour to your cheekbones.  This massage stimulates blood flow and provides facial muscles with more oxygen for recovery. We have 43 muscles in our face and we’re always using them. It’s time to give them some TLC. It’s like a non-invasive natural face lift that feels great to get!
We are so pleased to have Jessica and her awesome new techniques! Check out Mindbodyonline.com to schedule your visit with her and try out one of these great massages.
